Gazette van Moline
Two longtime supporters of the Center for Belgian Culture and the Rock Island County Historical Society have made an additional investment to enable research via the Gazatte van Moline.
Dates digitized are 1915 to 1940, with over 10,000 pages on-line for free by clicking on the newspaper on the right or HERE.
"Readers who have time to browse the issues however, will step back in time and discover life as it was for the Flemish-Americans during the early decades of the twentieth century. Perhaps they may even find a tidbit of information on one of their own ancestors." The impact of Belgian immigrants to the greater Quad Cities area is well documented in this unique publication that reached up to 5,000 subscriptions in 1918.

Gazette van Detroit
Access to this publication is provided by generous donors of the Genealogical Society of Flemish Americans, especially the late Margaret Roets.
Issues from 1916 to 1942 are currently available, with more to come in the future. Both the Detroit and Moline Gazettes featured news bits from 'back home', as well as stories from throughout the various Belgian-American communities, including Moline, Atkinson, Annawan, Mishawaka, Manitoba, etc.

Rock Island County Historical Society Library's Collection Newspaper Index
Our Newspaper Index is an ongoing project to index all of the newspapers in the Rock Island County Historical Society Library's collection. Currently, the staff at the Society is working to make the valuable information stored in its pages available to the public. Our collection contains the East Moline Herald, East Moline Enterprise, Van Gazette, Port Byron Globe, Erie Review, Rock Island Union, Milan Independent, Moline Dispatch, Reynolds Press, and Rock Island Argus. The Society is looking for volunteers to help us complete this project.
Newspaper articles that match your search results can be viewed at the Society, or can be requested for a fee of $2.00 per article. Please send the fee with a SASE, and a letter stating the article(s) you are requesting. The article request fee will be used to help cover the cost of preserving our newspaper collection, and for the time used by our staff members to complete your request. For each article requested, staff members have to locate each individual newspaper books, scan the article requested, and print the scanned pages, which will take up approximately 10 minutes per article requested.
